Měšťanská beseda

Detail information

Bedřich Smetana Primary Art School is one of the oldest schools of this type in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1920 as the Municipal Music School and it has borne the name of Bedřich Smetana since 1924. In the early days of its existence, it was housed in a building in Tylova Street and was dedicated to the education of professional musicians. In 1978, the school moved from Kopeckého sady to building in Revoluční Street, where it has been working so far (lessons are also held in other two separate workplaces: in Doubravka and Vinice).

The school currently has almost 1000 pupils studying in three disciplines: music, dance and art. The school cooperates with various institutions, e.g. with the Regional Authority of the Pilsen Region, the Municipality of Pilsen, Pilsen 4 Municipality, Pilsen Philharmonic, JK Tyl Theatre, Pilsen Conservatory, other Primary Art/Music Schools in the region, the Czech Radio in Pilsen and University Hospital in Pilsen. Pupils of the school perform in public: at concerts, festivals, competitions, exhibitions and others within the city, the Pilsen Region, the Czech Republic and abroad.
